-> Impaired driving is a violent crime that kills.

-> Every 30 minutes, someone in America dies because of an impaired driver.

-> Every two minutes, someone is injured.

Illinois law enforcement is absolutely committed to reducing alcohol-related traffic fatalities, and we can only do so with their help.

The Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over impaired driving enforcement mobilizations take place during major holidays - times of the year, when, unfortunately, impaired driving fatalities tend to be higher. So, law enforcement agencies all over Illinois step up enforcement, adding patrols and undertaking numerous public relations activities to spread the word about the dangers of impaired driving. Do they do it to write tickets? No, they do it to save lives. Is this the only time that impaired driving enforcement exists? Absolutely not, but it increases enforcement at times when more impaired drivers are anticipated on Illinois roads.

Why? Because research shows the best deterrent to a potential impaired driver is the threat of being caught. So, Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over mobilizations not only contain more enforcement, but also utilize various media tactics to make sure the public is well informed about the enforcement that will be out in force.

The objective is to keep impaired drivers from getting behind the wheel. Fewer impaired drivers, fewer crashes, fewer injuries and deaths.

Why all the media involvement? Because it works. Highly visible law enforcement, including impaired driving saturation patrols and roadside safety checks are a very effective tool in the impaired driving battle. They are made many times more effective when combined with a unified public information campaign that puts offenders on notice that their actions are not only serious but criminal. In short, strong enforcement backed by strong media efforts multiplies many times the deterrent effect of enforcement efforts.

Please help…we can’t do it without you!
